The earthquake in February 2011 was extremely distressing for the people exposed to this event, in particular, it resulted in fatalities, major injuries, and damage to property. Furthermore, the continued aftershocks were disconcerting for the residents of Christchurch. WebAt 12.51p.m.on Tuesday 22 February 2011 a magnitude 6.3 earthquake hit the city. Whilst of a lower magnitude than the September ‘quake, the epicentre was shallower at 5 kilometres and at 10 kilometres distant was much closer to the city centre. Striking whilst the city was full of workers, the effect was immediate and devastating.
