WebCastleford Gates signal box was built in around 1870, some three decades after the line on which its stands was built by the York and North Midland Railway. Classified and a Southern Division type 1B, it was erected by the North Eastern Railway who bought out the Y&NM in 1854. As the layout at Castleford expanded, so was the signal box.
